That is a normal process that happens with exposure to air. ( That is why in old movies they are always polishing the silver) This is a oxidation process and is normal. Sterling jewelry can be easily cleaned with a jewelry polishing cloth and should be done on occasion. Note that if you are wearing the items this process does not happen as fast due to the oils in your skin coating it to protect from tarnish. If is sits in a box unworn you may find it turns dark , again a quick wipe with a polish cloth will clean it . If your skin turns dark when wearing it that is a normal process too that is caused by your body chemistry and can happen one day and not the next . Again this is normal and is cause by your body having a chemical imbalance that day . This does not mean you are allergic or that the jewelry if not real sterling . If you have any question please let us know.
